NATIONAL AWSCPA SCHOLARSHIP
The American Woman's Society of CPAs now offers a national scholarship to individuals aspiring to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). The recipient of the scholarship will receive funding for a CPA review course conducted by a recognized CPA review provider. The scholarship will be paid directly to the provider and is valued at approximately $2,200.

Deadline for applications: MARCH 15, 2005

Requirements:

  • Applicant must meet the minimum education requirements to sit for the CPA exam within one year of scholarship awarding.
  • Applicant must either be an entering Senior, 5th year student, graduate student or a graduate AND eligible to take a review course within one year of scholarship awarding.
  • Applicant must have a 3.0 GPA in accounting and a 3.0 overall GPA.
  • Due date of application is March 15, 2004. Applicants will be notified of acceptance on June 30, 2004.
  • Applicants must provide a validated transcript from their college to verify grades, major and classes taken.
  • Applicant must submit an essay no longer than 1,000 words explaining why they are deserving of the scholarship.
  • Applicant must either be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident of the United States.

Needs and scholastic aptitude will be considered for the recipient(s). Awarding of the scholarship will be done at several student conferences held between August and December of each year. INSTRUCTIONS FOR  COMPLETION OF APPLICATION:
Application is to be completed by the student.
Type or print clearly.
Provide all requested information.
Attach the following to the completed application:

  • Letter of recommendation from a faculty member. (You may use attached Evaluation Sheet).
  • Transcript of courses completed. (Unofficial most recent copies of transcripts are acceptable).
  • Resume or statement, including educational background and goals and other pertinent information about yourself.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA AND APPLICATION PROCESS
The Inland Counties Affiliate of the American Woman's Society of CPA's (AWSCPA) awards $500 scholarships to deserving accounting students.

Student Criteria:
Candidates must have attained sophomore status at a two-year college planning to transfer to a four-year college to major in accounting, OR junior status at a four-year college majoring in accounting as of the fall semester or quarter. Candidate may be full or part-time (considering personal circumstances, i.e. currently working) and must graduate after June 2005. Previous and current work experience, preferably in the field of accounting, is desirable. Involvement in school, community, professional and/or charitable organizations is desirable. Candidates must have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA in accounting and a 3.0 GPA overall. Completion of Principles of Accounting at the Junior College or enrollment in an upper division accounting course at a four-year College.

Application must be submitted no later than February 28, 2005. The scholarship will be awarded at the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CALCPA) Citrus Belt Chapter award program in the Spring of 2005.

Our goal is to provide an incentive to deserving, motivated students who have chosen accounting as their profession. We want to assist students in meeting their academic goals. The American Woman's Society of Certified Public Accountants, founded over seven decades ago, has been the voice of women in the accounting profession.

2005 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Congratulations to Anna De Luna the 2005 AWSCPA Inland County Affiliate scholarship recipient who was awarded $500.00: Anna is a student at California State University, San Bernardino CSUSB and expects to graduate 3/06. She has a 3.5 GPA. She is on the Dean’s list, VP of membership of the Accounting Association a member of Beta Alpha Psi and a student member of the Cal Society of CPA's. Anna will be given her award at the May meeting.
