WELCOME TO THE NYC AFFILIATE OF AWSCPA

Welcome to the NYC Affiliate of the American Woman's Society of CPAs website.  As president of the NYC Affiliate, I wanted to introduce myself and tell you a bit about this dynamic chapter.  Over the years as a member I’ve seen firsthand that this organization is dedicated to advancing and developing women CPAs in NYC.  We do this in a variety of events designed to bring women together.  Whether it’s an AWSCPA CPE event, a Networking event, or a charity function-each is designed to help women learn from shared experiences in the field of accounting.  This allows our members to grow and learn from each other and ultimately to achieve our potential.

In the past year we held events that covered hot topics and issues in the accounting industry which most of us face on a daily basis.  We also held mixers, to recruit new members and strengthen the ties of our existing community.  We even held a Yoga and Pilates night to help alleviate our stress and nurture our mind and bodies.  With the help of our corporate sponsors we were able to increase our own net worth by learning the ‘Success Factors for Woman’ and tips for ‘Financial Planning’.   Our affiliate also gives back to the community by partnering with various charities such as Susan G Koman and R Baby Foundation.

As you can see our 2008-2009 year was packed with exciting events, and we were fortunate to have an increase in our membership.  The NYC Affiliate, established in 1986, currently has 100 members.  We had over 20 new members join since the spring of 2008 and we hope that you will consider joining our organization!  Our affiliate welcomes new members and invites them to join the various committees we have as well as our Board.  We are looking for dynamic women who can contribute to our diverse organization and become our future leaders.  The Affiliate now has an extremely diverse Board with different professional backgrounds including public and private accounting in various industries, recruiting, compliance and education.

For the 2008-2009 year we have several events in the planning stages including CPE seminars, charities, personal development and networking events such as our MAC event on October 21st!   We hope that you join us at one of these events to learn more about the organization.  Thank you for visiting our website.  I hope that you return to it often to look at our upcoming events calendar, job postings, and scholarship opportunities as well as read stories about our members and view pictures from past events.  The site shows many ways for you to get involved in our professional organization. I encourage you to be an active member in the NYC Affiliate and I look forward to seeing you at future events!
