Dear
Kim,
This
is really becoming a great year for me. We had a
good crowd and great food for our September
meeting while learning about what to do when
someone dies. The information provided by our
speaker was very informative and useful. Now we
have our October meeting to look forward to.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and
MassMutual will be making a contribution
to a worthy charity in our name based on
the number of attendees at the meeting. If more
than 20 attend, the contribution will be $500.
If, however, 40 or more attend, the contribution
will be $1,000. Hope to see everyone there, so
we hit the 40 mark. Also hope to
see you in Las Vegas at the Joint National
Conference on October 19-21. I just found out a
few days ago that there is a reception on Sunday
at 5pm before the conference for all 1st time
attendees. Since I'm one of those, I will be
there with bells on. Look for me during the
conference. I'll be the really short one in
sneakers. Sincerely,
Laura
Foley

Disability
Income Planning
Presented
by: Mary Budzien - Dollarhide Financial
Group, LLC
The
next topic for our upcoming CPE is "Disability
Income Planning". If business owners bring up
the topic of disability, often there is a lot of
misunderstanding about different types of
disability income. CPAs should be able to
consult the business owners and have a
discussion on a variety of insurance information
that is important to the clients, and at the
same time, very frequently misunderstood. Our
speaker Mary Budzien will equip you with
knowledge necessary to handle these discussions
with confidence.
Mary
Budzien has been in practice as a Financial
Advisor since 2001. For the last five
years she has practiced as an associate with the
The Dollarhide Financial Group, LLC, a
MassMutual agency in Scottsdale.
Currently, as a Certified Financial Planner,
Mary works primarily with
entrepreneurially-minded business owners and
professionals. She presents concepts to
her clients that enable them to accumulate,
preserve and distribute assets on a
tax-advantaged basis. Since the
mid-'80's Mary has supported the Maguire
Entrepreneurship Program at the University of
Arizona with scholarships from her family's
Foundation. For her long-time enthusiasm
and support of this program, she was inducted
into the University of Arizona's Hall of Fame
for Entrepreneurship Education. In 2009,
the Financial Times of London ranked the U. of
A. Program #9 in the world for the third year in
a
row. |

In
an effort to give back to the community, the
AWSCPA Tucson affiliate has started a tradition
of collecting donations for select charities and
other charitable endeavors each year. We also
have our own scholarship fund through which we
have given scholarships to deserving college
students - we awarded three $750
scholarships last year and two $500
scholarships in each of the prior three years.
We have also collected clothing for the YWCA
Your Sister's Closet. This year we have plans to
help the community as follows: YWCA
Your Sister's Closet This worthy
organization provides unemployed women with
clothing that is appropriate for job interviews
and to begin employment. They need professional
clothing that is stylish, clean and preferably
ON HANGERS. Clean out a closet and bring your
gently used items to our next luncheon. You'll
receive a receipt for your contribution, and
we'll take care of delivering them to the YWCA.
Find out more about this organization by
visiting their website at www.ywcatucson.org/. SCHOLARSHIPS
The Tucson AWSCPA has a scholarship
program for female accounting students who have
taken a non-traditional path to their education.
We have increased our scholarships
from three to four $750
each. There are several ways you
can help fund these
scholarships: $$$ Give and
receive... participate in the 50/50 raffle at
each meeting - one ticket for $1 or six tickets
for $5. The proceeds are split - half to the
winner and half to benefit the scholarship fund.
OR you can purchase tickets for the next raffle
by sending your check (made out to AWSCPA) to:
Chris Elzy, AWSCPA Treasurer (fbo scholarship),
P.O. Box 41361, Tucson, Arizona 85717-1361.
Please indicate "Raffle tickets" and the number
of tickets on the memo line. In
addition, you can help this cause through a
tax-deductible contribution directly to our
scholarship fund at The University of Arizona
Foundation. Please contact a board member for
information on how to contribute directly to the
fund. |
