AWSCPA Tucson Affiliate Members:
Hello everyone. I hope you had a wonderful
summer. We are looking forward to a great fall lineup of speakers,
networking, socializing and lunch. In addition to our one
hour lunch CPE's we are looking into presenting a four hour
CPE. We will keep you posted. Our August meeting with
Steve Wagner and his Introduction to Estate Planning was
informative and funny. Our next meeting with Bob Morrison of
Desert Angels looks exciting. Please feel free to bring
guests and encourage them to join our group. It is always
fun!
The National AWSCPA website has quite a bit of
useful information including three list serves. They
are Taxation & Consulting, Accounting & Auditing, and
Management, Mentoring & Leadership. If you have not
looked at the website in a while, try it. You will find
something useful.
It will be great to see everyone at the September luncheon!
Sincerely,
Rose Lapham President

$$$ SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE $$$
|
Please be thinking of friends and acquaintances who would
be interested in a helping hand with their school expenses.
Our past recipients have been very grateful for this assistance.
Four $750 scholarships will be awarded in December for female
accounting majors who have taken a non-traditional path to their
education. The money will be available in time for use
during the Spring 2011 semester. We also consider GPA
and financial need when making our decision of who will
receive the scholarships.
We will accept applications beginning September 15. You may
contact Deb Hutchinson at 352-1212 to obtain a form or e-mail her
at Deborah.Hutchinson@cliftoncpa.com to obtain an

In an effort to give back to the community, the AWSCPA
Tucson affiliate has started a tradition of collecting donations
for select charities and other charitable endeavors each year. We
also have our own scholarship fund through which we have given
scholarships to deserving college students - we awarded four
$750 scholarships last year and three $750 scholarships the
year before. We have also collected clothing for the YWCA
Your Sister's Closet. This year we have plans to help the community
as follows:
YWCA Your Sister's Closet This worthy organization
provides unemployed women with clothing that is appropriate for job
interviews and to begin employment. They need professional clothing
that is stylish, clean and preferably ON HANGERS. Clean out a
closet and bring your gently used items to our next luncheon.
You'll receive a receipt for your contribution, and we'll take care
of delivering them to the YWCA. Find out more about this
organization by visiting their website at www.ywcatucson.org/.
SCHOLARSHIPS The Tucson AWSCPA has a scholarship
program for female accounting students who have taken a
non-traditional path to their education. We plan
to award four scholarships of $750 each this year.
There are several ways you can help fund these scholarships:
$$$ Give and receive... participate in the 50/50 raffle at each
meeting - one ticket for $1 or six tickets for $5. The proceeds are
split - half to the winner and half to benefit the scholarship
fund. OR you can purchase tickets for the next raffle by sending
your check (made out to AWSCPA) to: Chris Elzy, AWSCPA Treasurer
(fbo scholarship), P.O. Box 41361, Tucson, Arizona 85717-1361.
Please indicate "Raffle tickets" and the number of
tickets on the memo line.
In addition, you can help this cause through a tax-deductible
contribution directly to our scholarship fund at The University of
Arizona Foundation. Please contact a board member for information
on how to contribute directly to the fund.
